While some are still in denial, the colder and darker days are really coming. Time to invest in a warm – and stylish – companion to drag you through autumn and winter. For inspiration, we turn our attention to street style during fashion month, where a large amount of different types of jackets were reviewed.
Streetstyle: jackets for autumn
Where the temperatures in New York and Milan were still far too high to go outside with a coat, the coats, puffers and biker jackets were indeed pulled out of the closet in London and Paris. The street style of present models, fashion journalists, stylists and influencers showed a variety of jackets. Striking were the color green and the many animal prints. Classics also passed by, from woolen ones to long leather trench coats.
The woman in green
Although the trend color hot pink was also spotted many times on the street during the fashion weeks, there was another, new color that really stole the show: green. And it came in every conceivable shade and version, from emerald to khaki and from quilted to patent leather. If you like to make a statement with your jacket, let it be green.
Long and made of leather
The long leather jacket or trench coat can now be called a classic. Since the revival of The Matrix – made popular in style by models such as Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber – the item has become an integral part of the street scene. Especially the black variant remains popular, but this season we also see colored and patchwork-like long leather jackets.
Aviator
Not only the pilot glasses, but also the pilot jacket is back. From London to Milan and Paris: the padded leather jackets with sheepskin were spotted everywhere. Fully embrace the cool ‘aviator look’ by combining your copy with jeans. Or create a surprise effect by mixing the jacket with ultra-feminine items, such as a translucent skirt or high heels.
Beasts
As far as jackets are concerned, we can go all-out this season. The inspiration comes mainly from the animal kingdom. Think of cuddly jackets (faux fur, of course), leopard prints and details with feathers. Or all combined with each other, because if there is one thing these jackets radiate, it is that nothing is too crazy.
Say it with color
Another striking jacket trend that engulfed fashion month? Bright colors. In addition to the many shades of green (see above), we also saw cobalt blue, flaming red and candy pink. Where some street stylists balanced their look by combining their coat with classic pieces, others went for pure maximalism with statement accessories or other brightly colored items.
Classic
There’s nothing like a classic jacket that’s impervious to the whims of the fashion world. Take, for example, the woolen cloak, with which you can go in all directions in terms of color, length and details, such as buttons, shoulders and cuffs. Investing in a timeless one means a beautiful jacket that will last a lifetime.
The new puffers
The puffer has been one of the new icons of jackets for a number of years. The padded jacket not only protects you from low temperatures, but also adds extra spice to any outfit. In 2022, the puffer comes in all shapes and sizes, from vibrant prints (see the jackets from the newly launched Tommy Hilfiger x Richard Quinn collection) to long variants in which you can easily hibernate.
